Dining and Entertainment

At the Kachina Lodge every meal is a memorable occasion. Whether your tastes run from traditional Americana to regional Northern New Mexican, our restaurants feature a variety of delicious cuisine.

Kiva Coffee Shop

Open from 6:00 AM- 5:00 PM daily, Taos' favorite location for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. The room is designed to resemble a circular spiritual chamber used by the Pueblo Indians and is dominated by a fantastic hand-carved totem pole (shown in photo at right).

Hopi Dining Room

Enjoy fine dining by firelight where entrees include steaks, seafood, pasta and traditional Northern New Mexican cuisine. Open daily from 5:00 until 10:00 PM.

Zuni Lounge

Relax and unwind in a casual setting featuring both indoor and poolside seating. A full-service bar where guests can enjoy nightly entertainment and big screen satellite sports.

Native American Dance Performances

From May through October, enjoy nightly dance performances presented by a group from the Taos Pueblo who have been delighting visitors for 12 years. Everyone is invited to participate in their "Friendship Dance". Cameras are allowed - a rare opportunity to photograph Native American dancing, since photographs are not allowed when ceremonial dancing takes place on the Pueblos.

Northern New Mexico Cuisine

Northern New Mexican cooking is a unique blend of Spanish and Native American recipes. The basic ingredients are three locally grown vegetables: chiles, beans and corn. Of these, perhaps the most crucial is the chile, either red or green. While both colors have various levels of spicy bite, red chiles are usually the hotter of the two and are actually green chiles at their ripest stage. Green chiles are hotter if the seeds are left in. It's always wise to ask before tasting either variety.

Examples of some of the regional foods you will encounter:

Biscochitos - cookies made with anise

Carne Adovada - tender pork marinated in red chile sauce, herbs & spices, then baked

Chile Relleno - chiles stuffed with cheese, deep-fried then covered with green chile cause

Empanada - a fried pie stuffed with fruit

Posole - a corn soup or stew, sometimes with pork & chiles

Sopa - Native American bread pudding

Sopaipilla - lightly fried puff pastry served with honey as a dessert or stuffed with meat & vegetables as a side dish
