Taos, ("the place of the red willows") covers several historic settlements including San Geronimo de Taos, the Taos Pueblo, and the Spanish settlement, Don Fernando de Taos. The Sangre de Cristo mountains in Spanish means, 'Blood of Christ'. The name of the mountain range was established from early Spanish settlers who were in awe of the blazing sunsets on the mountain range as the sun settled into evening.
